  I was a longtime, regular patron of Subway until several months ago when a young 20-something Asian guy who works at this Subway made anti-black racist remarks. Ironically enough, prior to the incident in question, he was always one of my favorite servers. I was always incredibly nice to him and even felt he was very cool to me. While putting my sandwich together everyday, he would often give me a funny account of a bad customer he had from the day that got on his nerves. As one example, he complained about kids not putting in their chairs when they left and said he could not get away with that in his household. I just laughed and thought it was cute. But on the day in question, he decided to add more detail to one of his accounts about who he felt were bad customers from that day. He complained, "These people asked me to make their whole sandwich again and I don't mean be racist or anything but they were all these blacks. You only get blacks doing things like that." I just laughed this off and wasn't much bothered by it, but then he continued, "You know, I used to work up in Waukesha at these apartments near Grandview. Well, the bottom apartments were low-income where all the blacks would stay because they can't afford anything. Me and my buddies who worked there all had this private thing between us in which we called that section where the blacks lived the hood section of the apartment facility. And me and my buddies always knew where to go when we said the hood section. And again, I'm not racist, but it was always the blacks who were the ones causing trouble. Everyone else was fine but it was always them." There was only one other patron in the restaurant that night, a young 20 somethings white female. She looked completely appalled by everything the Subway server was saying and was NOT laughing at all. I just stood there and remained COMPLETELY polite to him because I didn't want there to be any trouble. I figured he may have thought I was a different color other than black because of my lighter skin tone. A lot of people confuse me for being mixed and don't think I'm black, but I am a black American with black parents. The first thing I did when I got home was send a full account of the offensive incident to Subway headquarters via their website. It has now been 4 or 5 months and I have yet to receive any response from Subway headquarters. Very sad that this company doesn't care about such serious matters of offensive and unprofessional conduct out of its employees that they can't even respond to redress the issue. This happened in early September 2016 so the company has had ample time to respond to my complaint.
